Ebony team prepare to play the sport of kings at Ham Polo Club

A team of young people from Ebony Horse Club have been honing their polo skills and will soon put them to the test on the hallowed grounds of Ham Polo Club near Richmond. They will face off against a team of our own staff and volunteers on Saturday 23rd September 2017 in a special day of polo that will raise funds for Ebony.

Our first Christmas play

Khadijah's story

Khadijah, 15, is at school working towards her GCSEs. She has ambitions to study mechanical engineering at Imperial College. She lives in Peckham with her parents, brother and sister.

Natasha's story

Natasha, 18, is studying for a BSc in Equine Performance and Business Management at Writtle University College in Essex. She first came to Ebony when she was 15 and often describes how her confidence was at a low ebb.

Cameron's story

Cameron, 16, is remembered fondly for hanging around during the building of the riding centre and asking every day when he could start riding. His passion was there, despite never having sat on a horse before! He has recently begun a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Horse Care in Richmond Park for Operation Centaur. He leaves his home on the Loughborough estate at 5.10am to get to work.

Jordi's story

Jordi started riding with Ebony Horse Club at the age of nine. Riding is a family affair, with both his brother and sister also learning to ride with Ebony. Jordi’s brother has taken on managerial responsibilities at a riding centre in Lewisham and his sister is studying for a BSc in Equine Sports Performance at Plumpton College in East Sussex.

From Brixton to Burghley

We had a fantastic weekend at the 2016 Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials - enjoying all the thrills and spills of the cross country phase on the Saturday, before representing EHC at the SEIB Burghley Sponsored Ride on Sunday. And two boys even came to the rescue of one rider, whose horse was finding it all a little too exciting.

Flying to new heights on the residential summer trip

Our week-long residential summer trip is a much anticipated part of the summer holiday programme of activities and this year a group of riders and horses headed to East Sussex. They were treated to a lesson from former Three Day Event Rider John Smart, got to exercise the horses on the canter tracks and even got a ride in a helicopter.

Bye bye Buddy

On Sunday 15 May we threw a party in honour of Buddy, our lovely Irish cob who, after five years with us, has now been retired and is off to live the life of a country gent. Buddy, affectionately known by many as “The Budster” has been a loyal, reliable and much loved member of the team. Staff, children and volunteers will all miss his kind face, gentle nature and beautiful blue eyes.

Street cat Bob pays us a visit

Ebony Horse Club welcomed one of London's most famous cats recently, when James Bowen and his amazing marmalade cat, Bob came to watch lessons. Bob and James have found international fame through their books recounting the true story of how their meeting helped James overcome his addiction.

Limited edition bracelet to raise money for Ebony Horse Club

International showjumper, Yazmin Pinchen, is auctioning a limited edition bracelet to raise money for Ebony Horse Club. The bracelet, called 'London 2012' is made from the woven tail hairs of the four horses that helped GB secure the gold medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
